If these sleeveless sweaters (they’re NOT vests, dammit!) and their models aren’t sealed in a time capsule somewhere, they should be. They’re pretty much the embodiment of the free-wheelin’ 1970s. You’ve get yer diverse collection of bell-bottomed and go-go-booted citizens donning cultural icons like the Smiley Face, the Crazy Daisy, and the Rainbow Sternum. Their classic Sears Catalog posturing harkens back to a simpler time in our history. Goofy but cheerful, just like the 70s themselves, yes?

Uhh, no. The 70’s was not all smiles and flowers and technicolor ribs. There were Pilgrim-confused individuals with an Isaac Newton fetish, gals involved in lurid affairs with 50-foot women who left gaudy lipstick stains everywhere, and diamond-encrusted hunks stuffed into chunky corduroys.

In fact, let’s take a look at these crotch-poppers. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the finest example of the male camel toe we’ve ever see, affectionately known as . . . wait for it . . .

The Mooseknuckle!!!

It’s gonna get a little weird inside that time capsule.

    Ha!

  5. Laurie says:

It was goofy even then to tuck your knicker pants into your socks. Did the knickers ever look good? How did that fad get started?

  6. MadameD says:

Oh my god. That can NOT be comfortable, yet he’s got the biggest freaking smile on his face.
Somehow, this makes me hate the baggy pants thing a little less. I’d much rather see underwear than what a man’s packing.

  7. maryse says:

i spotted those moose knuckles even before the close-up. what does that say about me.

  8. Marnie says:

I must find a reason to use the term Moosknuckle.
    Priceless.

  9. Jacquie says:

  13. Jenn says:

Almost piddled right here in the office chair when I saw that camel toe. It’s scaaaaary!! In fact, it takes away from the ginormous socks (or are they white stockings and knickers?!) on the chick to his left… LOL! Great photos Stitchy!

  18. dogwoodbonsai says:

I wasn’t aware that mooseknuckle was masculine. I’ve only ever heard it used in the feminine. Very interesting…I need to make some phone calls

mooseknuckle! i needed that word so bad i can’t even explain it…i know a guy who has, what i call, “the rare male cameltoe”. now, he has a name all to himself. thanks stitchy!

  23. LaLa says:

Now that’s classic. I’ll have to use that word “mooseknuckle” more often. Ok not make the image weirder or draw more attention to it. (I’m sure it does that fine on its own) But I’ve been wondering.. Is it me.. Or is he a bit loppy?

  24. Jenna says:

Oh my good grief!!!!!!!! That was too funny….thanks for the close-up of the Mooseknuckle! And I also wonder if the ‘lip sweater’ could be modified somehow to be the Rolling Stones lips & tongue??? I’d wear that!!!

  25. John Davis says:

What IS that thing???… There shouldn’t be anything like that in that particular spot… Yikes…

  26. ellen says:

i have that pattern! i made the middle, flower sweater thing, the one shown in orange. it came half made with the pattern, and someone had crocheted the flower so i just finished it. Its pretty awful.
